Our team strives to achieve excellence in every aspect of the journey to healing process. This is further assisted by the development of a purpose built facility taking into consideration the needs and comfort of all stakeholders. From the entrance and passage ways to our private rooms and larger then normal theatres coupled with compassion, empathy and care, this is Shelly Beach Hospital.
Shelly Beach hospital was the dream of a group of people who are passionate about healthcare and the well being of their community. The dream kicked off early in 2008 with the site establishment for Shelly Beach Day hospital which opened its doors on the 1st of August 2010, coupled with 20-day surgical beds. The dream and passion didn’t end there, 10 months later we opened Shelly Beach Sub-Acute Hospital on the 1st of June 2011.
The Board of Directors soon began realising a far greater Vision – that of developing a comprehensive basket for services.
The group applied to the Department of Health Kwa-Zulu Natal for permission to develop a 160-bed acute hospital. The Department granted permission for the development on 1 July 2014. Planning began in earnest. The contract for the construction of the hospital was awarded to Aveng Grinaker-LTA and commenced in August 2015.
The spectacle of the ever-growing structure of the new hospital has generated much excitement in the community. The excitement and expectation of the community we serve, is a much-needed boost to our energies and keeps the project team equally excited about the hospital emerging from concrete and steel. Our modern and comprehensively equipped facility provides the opportunity for all types of medical and surgical procedures to be performed – all under one roof.
